Auf welchen KARIBIK-Inseln warst du?
Ich war auf den Karibikinseln St. Martin (halb niederländisch, halb französisch) und Curacao (niederländisch).
Spontan, was war dein Highlight?
Der Segeltörn rund um St. Martin mit Stopp auf St. Barth, um dort eine Tour mit dem Mietwagen zu machen.
Vor allem Gefühl der Freiheit auf dem Wasser ist Entspannung pur. Der Segeltörn ist gut für Segeltörn-Einsteiger, da die Segelzeiten nicht so lang sind.
Wer reist nach St. Martin und Curacao?
Natürlich viele Franzosen und Niederländer. Vorraussetzung für einen Urlaub auf den ABC-Inseln oder auf St. Martin ist eine gut gefüllte Urlaubskasse. Die beiden Inseln sind echte Tipps zum Entspannen. St. Martin ist recht bergig, daher kann man auf der Insel wunderbare Ausblicke genießen. (Curacao ist flach.)
St. Martin haben wir mit einem Roller erkundet, um einen Eindruck abseits des Tourismus zu bekommen. Das macht Spaß. Rollerfahren ist ganz einfach und man ist super schnell um die Insel gefahren, sodass man eigentlich alles mit dem Roller machen kann. Nur leistungsstark sollte er sein, sonst kommt man die Berge nicht hoch 😉 Im schlimmsten Fall muss man – wie wir – absteigen und laufen, aber auch das war der Spaß wert.
Wie ist das Preisniveau vor Ort?
Auf St. Martin sind die Preise sehr hoch. Die Insel gehört zur Hälfte zu den Niederlanden und zur anderen Hälfte zu Frankreich. Die französische Karibik, auch die ABC-Inseln sind insgesamt recht teuer. Vieles muss importiert werden, wie Lebenmittel, Obst und Gemüse. Man kann sagen, dass die Kosten gut 20% teurer sind als bei uns.
Restaurantbesuche auf dem französischen Teil von St. Martin sind exklusiv. Es gibt viele hochwertige Restaurants in Grand Case, in denen Lobster u.ä. serviert wird. Man kann aber auch in den Lolos essen gehen. Das sind landestypische Restaurants mit Essen der Einheimischen. Hier bekommt man leckere Spare Ribs und auch Seafood zu normalen Preisen, wie bei uns in Deutschland.
Was sollte man gesehen haben?
Die Inseln sind nicht für ihre spannenden Highlights bekannt. Der farbenfrohe, koloniale Baustil hat einen tollen Flair. Aber hier macht man Urlaub um die Seele baumeln zu lassen – mit den Füßen im Sand und der Sonne im Gesicht.
Wo wart ihr untergebracht?
In St. Martin haben wir im Grand Case Beach Club, fußläufig von der Flaniermeile Grand Case entfernt, gewohnt. Das Hotel liegt direkt am Meer, es gibt aber nur einen kleinen Strand. Alle Zimmer sind mit Balkon und direktem Blick aufs Meer ausgestattet. Das versüßt den wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang, den man von Balkon aus beobachten kann.
In Curacao waren wir im Sandals Royal Curacao untergebracht.
Das Hotel liegt eher etwas abseits. Man ist auf die Hotelanlage angewiesen. Das nutzt man dann auch, denn das Hotel ist sehr preisintensiv. Dafür liegt der Strand quasi direkt vor der Tür. Das Hotel ist erst seit letztem Jahr geöffnet unter der Kette Sandals. Meine Erwartungen, den der Name des Hotels mit sich bringt und der dementsprechende Preis, wurden leider nicht erfüllt.
Die Anlage ist wunderschön, wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Balkon und Meerblick. Sandals ist eher auf den US Markt ausgerichtet. Ich denke, dass unsere Kunden mit dem Avila Beach und Lions Dive, welches wir gerne anbieten, besser untergebracht sind.
Was bringt man von dort mit?
Karibik steht für Rum, wie Rum Punch.
Wenn ich in der Karibik bin, dann bringe ich auch immer Muskatnüsse mit. In Curacao waren wir auf dem Markt in Willemstad, um Muskatnüsse zu kaufen. Und von St. Martin haben wir auch welche mitgebracht, die von Guadeloupe importiert wurden.

Hier bekommt man authentische Einblicke in das Leben der Einheimischen. Die Vielfalt der Früchte und Gewürze ist schier endlos, so wie die Farben und Gerüche. Und diese Erinnerungen nimmt man nach der Reise mit nach Hause.“
